Trudeau against bilingualism?

Cyberpresse has a big splashy headline saying that Justin Trudeau does not favour bilingualism. Meh huh.

Let's put the headline in context:

«Non, je ne suis pas en faveur du bilinguisme», a-t-il répondu, avant de faire une longue pause et d'ajouter : «Je suis pour le trilinguisme et le quadrilinguisme C'est de plus en plus vers cette réalité que nous nous dirigeons.»
Turns out that Cyberpresse is really just a blog, masquerading as legit media.

Rise and shine in YOW

As I typed this post, it’s 5:45am and I am sitting in the Ottawa Airport waiting for a flight to Halifax. Because I forgot how quickly one can cross this city when there is no traffic, I got here ridiculously early for my flight – high security or not. Does this have an effect on the Tim Horton’s line up? Heavens no, it’s been busy since before I picked up my boarding pass. All of the other shops are as empty as a sinful soul.

Dang, I didn’t win roll up the rim.

This and that

  • Boy and I thought the Pope had it rough.
  • Budget 2007 - the Grits continue to feud. What so many of them forget is that it is the constitutional role of the official opposition to oppose the budget. Doesn’t matter what is in the darn thing – it could be the budget that brings world peace, but there are undoubtedly flaws, things missed, people left behind and the duty of her majesty’s official opposition is to find those holes. That doesn’t means stop what is good and what they like. Not forsomeone with my political background to talk...but show some solidairty folks!
  • If I were a voter in Québec I would vote for a Young government.
  • I watch enough public affaires shows to have seen Chantal Hébert promote her book for the umpteenth time. People like dis public broadcasters or just tune them out, but let me tell you, TVO and TFO have excellent programming.
  • UPDATE: Here is a link to the Hébert interview on TFO. If anyone knows where the TVO interview can be found, let me know it was equally good.

There is a foolish corner in the brain of the wisest man.

L’académie française controls French. To deal with their rapidly changing language, the English ask, “Why not give Wikipedia a whirl?”

Biased Hockey Reporting

Just when I thought that Radio-Canada was doing some hockey reporting that wasn’t about the Habs. (See the screen shot) It turns out the actual article about the Sens game is exclusively about how things affect the Montréal's playoff chances. The fan base here hits Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec - surely Radio-Canada doesn't need to stack it's reporting against developing Ottawa's market.

I thought CBC had a bad Maple Leafs bias. Radio-Canada’s bias is far worse.

This and that

Agree. The Montreal Gazette has an excellent editorial about the foolishness of the headscarf ruling in the Laval soccer tournament.

Somewhat agree. Truth of the matter? In cases like this, the child rearing skills, has lead to a 218lbs eight year old. While I think it’s still physically possible to save his health, the likelihood of this boy ever being remotely healthy is pretty bleak, once he hits the age of majority he will likely only chose the eat cheeseburgers. However, it does send an important about parenting. Allowing such a young child to behave in such a manner, is too dangerous for the child. You don’t need to hit a child to warrant intervention because of harm done.

Foolish. Ottawa get’s it’s “zero increase” budget. Not really, but we can maintain the illusion for this year. Except for the increased user fees and lack of light rail.

Amusing. The man famous for the Shawinigan Handshake is making a run for office with Québec Solidaire.
